If Rome is to maintain its grasp in the region it must play a delicate game of balance with the Lombard, Gepid, and burgeoning Slavic Kingdoms. The Balkans lie threatened by Slavic tribes from the Northeast, migrating in search of new homes, ands the rising Khanate of the Avars. And with the Emperor's death Rome might slip back into chaos.

Though the Roman Empire has been somewhat restored it does not posses it's former strength. Southern Germania has been united in confederation, a powerful young state, under the guiding force of the Severene Church. The Gupta's of India have been humbled by Hunnic invaders, who seem poised to establish a dynasty of their own over the lands of the Hindus. The Ambrosian Dynasty of Britain has collapsed into Civil War amongst the three sons of King Constantine III, and the other kingdoms of Britain watch like vultures. New powers rising and old powers are falling. Finally once the storm had passed the world had changed around the empire, and a new age had begun. The Crisis of the 13th Century brought the Roman Empire to its knees, for a century Rome was embroiled in internal conflicts as the world around them shifted.
